Discovering the Versatility of Gouache

As an artist continually seeking new ways to express myself, discovering gouache has been a revelation. This unique medium allows me to use both transparent and opaque techniques to make paintings. It works well with layering and markmaking, which I haven’t found as available in watercolors. Unlike any other medium I've experimented with, gouache feels like a natural extension of my artistic vision.

My journey with gouache painting began with an online class at the Contemporary Naturalism Guild of Art, taught by Kelly Radding. She has guided me to the possibilities of gouache, from its application techniques to its versatile nature as not quite a watercolor, but not quite acrylic either. The application feels like oil painting, without all the nasty solvents and ventilation requirements. Through color swatches and numerous sketches, I am enjoying the new possibilities that this medium allows, finding much joy in the process of discovery.

Moving forward, I'm eager to continue exploring the technique of gouache painting. Each sketch brings me closer to understanding its nuances and finding new creative ways to paint my favorite subject: nature. I invite you to follow along on my artistic journey and explore the latest updates in my galleries, where my newfound passion for gouache shines through in every piece.
